How I do ethical PR.
Media coverage helps build trust, visibility and credibility.
Yet it can take months to achieve, even years. I know this as a widely-published and experienced journalist and media consultant who has reported and worked from five continents for a diverse range of publications.
The harsh reality is that PR is a long-term game. You won’t get the results you want to see in just a few days.
You don’t have to hire someone full-time for this, though. You know what I’d do if I were looking to try to increase visibility and coverage but I didn’t have a huge budget at the moment? I’d look at hiring a journalist or former journalist - someone who has been or is still in the trenches, so to speak - whether it’s on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis, for at least a few months.
I’d have a chat about a retainer, or a package.
If they’re a good one, they won’t guarantee you anything - because they can’t. This may sound weird, but no one can. Not even the best PR agency can promise coverage.
But look at their portfolio, their track record and what past clients say.
If you’d like to have a chat about working together, please let me know.
